I took my whole family there for dinner and it was great! Something on the menu for everyone and the food was excellent! I would go there again.

Great atmosphere & great food! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for good all around quality. Texas Monthly wrote a great article about this restaurant, after eating there themselves several times. I will copy and paste their review from their magazine below. I personally like restaurants that are family owned and not a chain. This is a place you can go and the owners are actually there. If you eat there be sure to take a tour of every room including the nice patio with the firepit and waterfall and the bar which is very interesting with all of the history on the walls. No other place like it in Tyler. I've been going to this restaurant since they opened last Summer and everything on the menu is excellent! Texas Monthly review from January 2009: This new bar and grill in Tyler is a welcome departure from the national chains popping up on every corner. A wonderful study in contradictions, Coyote Sam’s atmosphere is hunting-lodge-meets-creek-side-cafe, its menu eclectic-barbecue-joint-meets-California-trattoria. On back-to-back visits (we really like this place), we relished a smoky prime rib sandwich, a generous portion of barbecued beef tucked into grilled sourdough bread, and a walnut-crusted salmon in a lemony butter sauce. We did not regret indulging in the Texas Cannonball, a softball-size scoop of cinnamon ice cream rolled in Oreo cookie crumbs. Bar. Enough said. This should tell you more than enough to know you need to try it!!!

Definitely improving

The first time I tried Coyote Sam's was when it had been opened for just a couple months. We were seated, greeted by a server who said they would get us our waters until our real server came. That was fine, except we never saw our real server. By the time the ice melted in our glasses, we walked out. The hostess didn't even notice that we weren't there long enough to possibly have eaten when she told us to have a good night. It seems like they just had a rough start when they first opened with bad servers. I've gone a few more times since then and mostly everything has been wonderful! The food is DELICIOUS, the servers were polite and attentive. I may be biased from working as a hostess & server in another restaurant for a few years, but it seems like the hostesses (who are the first impression of a restaurant) should be a little more welcoming. The indoor dining rooms are very nice, interesting, and neat looking while the outside dining is beautiful and pretty peaceful! I think a lot of restaurants have trouble with employees when first opening, but it appears to be improving. I'd say give it a chance. The food (especially the brisket & baked beans) is definitely worth it!

Not worth the trip

Yesterday was my second time to Coyote Sam's. The first time (several months agao) we sat for 1/2 hour before finally asking for a waiter. Other parties seated later had received drinks and salads. We received our water 5 minutes later and never saw a waiter again. After 45 minutes we left. Yesterday we went for Brunch. I ordered the Eggs Benedict. They were service with NO hollandaise sauce. I asked for the sauce and received a little over a tablespoon. When I received the bill there was a charge for $.50 for the sauce. The waitress said that is just how it is. I asked to see the manager. Never saw him, but 10 minutes later received a different bill with the sauce removed, but no explanation. Nice atmosphere, but considering the prices and the service I would recommend almost any other restaurant in Tyler.
